The Domus Sessoriana is located within an archaeological site that includes the ruins of the Temple of Venus and Cupid, which in times past housed Councils of State, and the magnificent Castrensian Amphitheatre, built around the time of Emperor Heliogabalus (212-222). The Amphitheatre used to host gladiatorial games and fights between humans and wild animals; now it is home to the Cistercian Vegetable Garden.
The building of the Domus Sessoriana is divided into two sections.

The Priory wing is to the right of the front of the Basilica, and occupies part of the old Monastery. It has three floors that include the hall, the refectory and various elegantly furnished rooms of different sizes. All the rooms on the first floor are superior category, and have Wi-Fi. From the upper floors you have a view of the Temple of Venus and Cupid outside; and from the glass lift inside, you can admire magnificent original 19th Century paintings.

The Aurelian wing, to the right of the Basilica's facade, is in a small building that stretches towards the Imperial Amphitheatre. It has five completely refurbished and tastefully furnished floors, all accessible by lift. The rooms overlook either the archaeological remains of Constantine's Imperial Villa, the Claudius aqueduct or the enchanting Piazza of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, restored for the Great Jubilee in 2000.

From the Domus Sessoriana's terrace guests can enjoy panoramic views dominated by the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the monasterial gardens of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem and Rome's rooftops; on particularly clear days you can see Rome’s volcanic mountains.

The Domus Sessoriana holds modern art exhibitions and events in its exhibition spaces to help promote modern young artists.
